How
many times in the last hundred years or so have people talked of the imminent
death of the book? Films were an early threat, because they were so effective
at telling stories in a visual way. Nowadays, the threat of television, cinema
and new technologies make threatening to paper books. Many books, on the one
hand, have film adaptations, which for many people is poor and on the other
hand, the film adaptations have been more famous and award-winning than the
book itself. In addition, many people prefer to wait to see the movie
instead of reading the book. This can cause that many people to stop
reading and that the literary industry is weak. We will never go without books.
